Andy Samberg Speaks At Harvard University

27 May

Yesterday I was talking to my brother about his upcoming high school graduation and departure for college when he asked me if I had seen Andy Samberg’s speech at Harvard University’s College Class Day this month. I hadn’t, and he told me that it was 20 minutes of pure Andy Samberg hilarity that I needed to see immediately.

When you think about graduating college, specifically from somewhere like Harvard University, what kind of speaker do you think will come in for an event like this? Political figures, CNN celebrities, maybe an actual Harvard graduate? I wouldn’t even imagine Andy Samberg being the speaker at a community college let alone Harvard, even despite the fact that he is both hilarious and successful. However, I have to say, Harvard University seems to have made the perfect choice considering how well received all of Andy’s goofball antics like kissing the dude that introduced him while listening to Adele’s “Someone Like You” before even taking the podium, and reminding anyone who majored in “History, Literature, all things related to art, Social Studies, East Asian Studies, pretty much anything that ends with studies…” will all be deemed useless once they graduate unless they can be turned into an iPhone app. He is 125% correct.

Later he also surprises the crowd by singing “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. Graduation appropriate? No. Hilarious? Yes. Just like his impersonation skills which shortly followed, including one of my all-time favorite Andy Samberg celebrity impersonations Mark Wahlberg from the epic SNL skit “Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals”.

Say hello to your mother for me, Harvard graduates.

P.S. – How do you think the Harvard Professors felt about Andy’s on-stage proclamation that, and I quote, “Yale sucks balls!”?

CW Upfronts: “The Vampire Diaries” Cast!

26 May

Every single year that I have attended Upfronts I have gone for one person and one person only: Paul Wesley.

I will never forget the first time I saw him outside of the 2012 CW Upfronts which at the time were held at The Theater inside Madison Square Garden. Paul came outside after the presentation with Nina Dobrev and signed a bunch of autographs while I watched from a row or two back, hopelessly trying to get his attention in hopes of squeezing up to the barricade for a picture. Last year the one event I wasn’t able to attend at all during Upfronts week was the CW Upfronts, go figure, but while I was sitting at work every single one of my friends got to meet Paul at the after party. When I say every single one, I mean literally: every. single. one.

This year was do or die as far as I was concerned and I am happy to show off the fact that I finally succeeded! It was not without effort though. Aside from the fact I was up, ready, and in midtown super early it seemed like everyone was in a rush before and after the presentation. Paul practically ran into the red carpet and press area beforehand, but on his way back out he stopped for a few fans before heading back into the hotel with the rest of the cast. As I was watching him make his way down the barricade he started to wrap up and I could hear his publicist saying things like, “Okay, last one! He’s gotta go!” and panic ensued. So, I did what any fangirl in my situation would do: I beasted. I beasted hard.

Before I knew it I was leaning over the barricade, my upper body curved around a gigantic security guard, speaking to Paul as he began to walk away. “Paul! I come to Upfronts every year to meet you and still haven’t met you!” So what does Paul do? He comes right over and says, “Well, here I am!” I. Die. We took our picture and he thanked me for coming and I think I passed out afterwards. (Not really, but still.)

Paul Wesley was not my only “The Vampire Diaries” cast member I met during Upfronts week. Below are my pictures with Kat Graham, Candice Accola, Steven R. McQueen, and Zach Roerig. I have to say it was a pretty epic way to close out Upfronts week!

Rob & Kristen Sitting In A Tree… Or On a Balcony

24 May

Every year we wait patiently for the Cannes Film Festival to be over so we know what the hottest thing to come out of it will be. Today we learned that there is no waiting until the end of this years festival – the hottest thing to come out of Cannes this year is this video of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart canoodling on a balcony at the ‘On The Road‘ after party last night. Schwing.

While I do agree this video is adorable, it is no surprise whatsoever. Acting like this video has provided us with brand new information is uncalled for. We’ve known for years that they have been together so if you are just now doing the “FINALLY!” happy dance, you are very tardy to this party.

Now if only they’d walk a red carpet together…

CW Upfronts: “Hart of Dixie” Cast!

23 May

Last Thursday the CW Upfronts closed out Upfronts week here in New York. The presentation itself was held in Midtown on 55th Street, just around the corner from the London Hotel which was where the red carpet happened to be. I knew the presentation would be at 10:30am and that it would be swarming with CW fans so I made sure to leave bright and early at about 7am to secure a spot on the barricade, but I was sorely mistaken. By the time I got off the train there were no spots on the barricade and my friends and I were left wondering if miracles still existed. We noticed that the red carpet was set up inside the London walkway and decided to take a stroll around the corner and see what was going on over there which is how we stumbled upon the barricades they had set up in front of the hotel. The barricades were originally intended to create a walkway for talent from the front entrance of the hotel to where the red carpet was set up inside the outdoor area, but ended up being a barrier for fans like myself to hang around in hopes of seeing their favorite CW stars. Either way, I was thrilled they were there!

Shortly after 9am the stars started rolling out of the London to make their way onto the red carpet and start dealing with press. The CW Upfronts is the only one I’ve seen where the talent hits the red carpet before the presentation, because the talent is usually set to be a surprise for other networks. I guess the CW likes to do things differently given all of their die-hard fan bases. Stars from their returning shows like ‘90210‘ and ‘Supernatural‘ were present to show off their success, while other stars where there to debut clips from their newly picked up shows like ‘Arrow‘, ‘Beauty & the Beast‘, and ‘The Carrie Diaries‘. One of the CW’s newest shows which was picked up for a second season was their to represent, and that show is ‘Hart of Dixie‘! Though I didn’t get the chance to meet the show’s star Rachel Bilson who I have loved since ‘The O.C.‘, I did get a chance to meet all of the guys featured on the show from Scott Porter to Wilson Bethel and Cress Williams. All of the guys were really nice and seemed thrilled to be in attendance and help promote ‘Hart of Dixie‘. I didn’t mention to them that I still haven’t watched the season finale though. Oops.

Baz Luhrmann Takes On “The Great Gatsby”

23 May

There are few things I love more than I love Carey Mulligan, and one of those things is a period piece film with a modern day touch. Baz Luhrmann is sort of a God when it comes to mashing up classics with something new, and that is how he created two of my favorite films: ‘Romeo + Juliet’ and ‘Moulin Rouge’.

Baz’s films are usually received with heavy criticism, but they have always appealed to me. That’s why it is no surprise that the trailer for his latest, “The Great Gatsby“, has me drooling. From the opening sound of “No Church in The Wild” off of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne” album to Daisy Buchanan effortlessly personified by Carey Mulligan, I am in. Signed, sealed, and delivered!

My only qualm with the film? 3D. I get that 3D film is like the new fun thing that all filmmakers want to try just to say they have, but this trailer looks pretty perfect on my non-3D laptop screen. It just seems unnecessary, but I’m sure there is reasoning behind it, one I won’t know until I cave and see it in 3D come this December.

What do you think of the trailer?

Justin Bieber: 2012-13 North American Tour Dates!

23 May

Justin Bieber’s sophomore album “Believe” hits shelves and online music stores on June 19th and I am so not ready for it. I loved “My World” and the later released “My World 2.0” so much that it brought back my hardcore love affair with pop music that had been dwindling for so long. I know that “Believe“ has much more of a hip-hop/R&B vibe too it based on what we’ve heard, which makes me think back to the days of N’SYNC and the progression their music took from their debut self-titled album to their last, “Celebrity“.

The Justin Timberlake comparisons don’t hurt, either.

The other day Justin Bieber released the tracklisting for “Believe“ which got all of us Beliebers into a frenzy! Check them out:

1. ‘All Around the World’ Feat. Ludacris

6. ‘Catching Feelings’
7. ‘Fall’

11. ‘One Love’
12. ‘Be Alright’
13. ‘Believe’
14. ‘Out of Town Girl’
15. ‘She Don’t Like the Lights
16. ‘Maria’

Now, adding to that frenzy, Justin Bieber has released North American tour dates! I saw Justin on his “My World” tour when he took over the IZOD Center in New Jersey and I haven’t been that impressed by a performance in a long, long time. I haven’t been that impressed since, either! It will be interesting to see what Justin brings to the stage with “Believe“ this time around. Oh, and guess what? CBS Upfronts: Melissa McCarthy & Dennis Quaid!

21 May

Melissa McCarthy & I outside Carnegie Hall following the CBS Upfronts.

This was my first year swinging by the CBS Upfronts at Carnegie Hall and I have to say that the celebrity guest turnout was much  better than I expected! My original intention when decided to hit the event up was to meet Ashton Kutcher, Kat Dennings, and Beth Behrs. I am a huge fan of Ashton’s version of ‘Two and A Half Men‘, but unfortunately he is off filming the Steve Jobs biopic and couldn’t make it to Upfronts. I am also a huge fan of ‘2 Broke Girls‘ with Kat and Beth, and even though they were in attendance meeting them didn’t work out in my favor.

Not many of CBS’s stars stopped outside of Carnegie Hall but one who did was someone I was really, really excited to meet: Melissa McCarthy. Admittedly I don’t watch ‘Mike & Molly‘ – though I’m sure it’s hilarious – but I am a big fan of ‘Bridesmaids‘ which was Melissa’s breakout role from last year. Melissa was beautiful in person and so nice that I was actually taken back by it. Celebrities as kind as Melissa McCarthy are a rare breed, so it’s always refreshing to meet a new one!

Dennis Quaid & I at Lincoln Center for the CBS Upfronts after party.

After Carnegie Hall I walked over to Lincoln Center where the CBS after party was being held in hopes of seeing some more of the network talent. When I got there Dennis Quaid who has a new show coming to CBS in the Fall called ‘Vegas‘ was outside taking pictures with fans and I was fortunate enough to get one. I don’t know much about his new show but I knew that ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting‘ would be hitting theaters this weekend so I was very excited to be meeting one of the cast members! Dennis is very tan in person. He was also very keen on looking everyone who asked for a picture in the eyes. I feel like we had a moment. It was sort of awkward, actually.

Fingers crossed that Ashton Kutcher, Kat Dennings, and Beth Behrs are still on CBS next year so I can give it another go!
