2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #1 – Tom Cruise!

2 Jan

Have you seen #5 – #2 (Jake Gyllenhaal, Justin Bieber, Shia LaBeouf, & Taylor Lautner)? If not – click HERE!

Alright, admittedly I should have posted this Saturday. Unfortunately I was much busier this weekend than I originally expected and that’s why you’re getting this now – though I’m sure the wait has anxiously checking the site every five minutes, right? Right.

Hopefully Tom Cruise being #1 of 2011 comes as a surprise, though I understand if it doesn’t considering it happened so recently. If by chance you missed how I met Tom Cruise please check it out on my NextMovie column here! I kind of have a thing for Tom Cruise. What’s not mentioned in my column is that I had been telling my friends all year, “I want to meet Tom Cruise. I want to meet Tom Cruise. I WANT TO MEET TOM CRUISE.” I mean, he’s such a big deal to me that I can’t even just refer to him as Tom. He’s Tom Cruise. I didn’t meet Tom, I met Tom Cruise. This isn’t a picture with Tom, it’s a picture with Tom Cruise. It’s kind of like one word. Tom Cruise.

And that, ladies and gents, is my Top 5 of the year. Hopefully I’m still blogging at the end of 2012 and hopefully I can bring you another Top 5 then with brand new faces!

2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #2 – Taylor Lautner!

30 Dec

To see #5 – #3 (Jake Gyllenhaal, Justin Bieber, & Shia LaBeouf!) – click HERE!

I am sure you are all BAFFLED as to how I could possibly include someone like Taylor Lautner in my Top 5 – and by baffled I mean you are all in shock that he wasn’t #1. I have to tell you, I struggled over this for a while. I mean, you guys know me, you know that Taylor is like my favorite favorite favorite favorite human being on the face of this planet. However when you see #1 tomorrow I think you will understand why.

Since my web-site has started my love affair (see what I did there?) with Taylor has been chronicled pretty efficiently, I think. I shared with you when I first met Taylor, back in 2009, back in September. And, shortly afterward, I shared with you my experience with Taylor while he was promoting Abduction (which three out of four of the pictures you see came from… totally normal). Then I got to share with you my encounter with Taylor – which is probably the greatest thing that has ever happened to me EVER – again in November when he came back to promote Breaking Dawn.

After looking at those three posts, I don’t think I need to really explain why Taylor is on my list.

Dear Taylor: If you ever see this, I’m just saying that… dinner couldn’t hurt. Right? I’ll even pay. When’s the last time a girl took YOU to dinner? Boom.

#1 is tomorrow! I promise to get it up before I go out for an evening of year ending debauchery!

2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #3 – Shia LaBeouf!

29 Dec

Check out my #5 & #4 Top Celebrity Encounters – Jake Gyllenhaal & Justin BieberHERE!

Shia LaBeouf and I have a rocky relationship. That’s right, I said relationship, and that’s because we’ve had some issues over the past couple of years.

When Shia was filming “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” here in New York back in 2009, I made more than one effort to meet him on set. I had heard that he wasn’t exactly the easiest person to try and meet on set, but he has been one of my favorite actors since I can remember, so I figured why not? Trying never hurt anyone. Plus, 9 times out of 10, as long as you don’t completely interrupt a scene, actors are usually more than happy to stop on their way to and from lunch, or when they are done for the day. Well, not Shia LaBeouf. The first time I saw him on set I froze up. I had been meeting a friend for lunch in Chelsea and as we stood on a corner figuring out which direction we should go, there was Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan walking across the street towards us. It was one of those surreal moments that I remember only in slow motion. Once they hit our corner Carey went her own way to her trailer, and Shia crossed the street in the direction we were headed – so duh, we followed him. We thought that if we caught him at his trailer he would be nice enough to do it. He was, after all, alone. No security, no PA, no nothing. Just Shia. He practically jogged to his trailer though, and when he got there he realized it was locked, and when he turned to see if anyone was coming he more or less gave us a look that, if looks could kill, would have shot us dead on site. I can take a hint, so we left.

The next time I tried him on set was when he was filming in the Central Park zoo with Michael Douglas. We got to watch them film that scene where they are walking passed the seals eating hot dogs about 45 times before they wrapped for lunch, and we waited on a bench at the entrance to the zoo for them to come back to set once lunch was over. We got to say hi to Oliver Stone, who was really nice, and Michael Douglas chatted with us a bit on his way back to set, too. Then Shia was on his way back and we thought – This is it! – because if Oliver and Michael were being so accommodating, why wouldn’t Shia? We said hi to him as he approached us with a big, scary looking PA, and he said hi back but wouldn’t even look at us. We pushed anyway – hey, maybe he was shy? – and asked for a picture and his exact response, word for word, again without looking at either of us, was the following: “No. I’m walking.” Oh. Okay. Um, I can take two hints – so I never went back to that set again!

When Wall Street 2 was finally released, June and I actually had tickets to the premiere and the after party. Shia showed up late to the premiere and never even came inside to the theater to watch the film, and he didn’t attend the after party.

This June when Shia and his Transformers co-stars were in the city to promote and premiere the film I figured I would give it one last go. I, like most Shia fans, had seen that he happens to be very friendly when he is filming Transformers so I decided that it’s got to be a Michael Bay thing. Maybe Michael Bay sits him down at the beginning and is like, “I don’t care if you don’t want to meet fans, you will do so on my set.” Imagine that in a really dramatic and stern Michael Bay voice, okay? I had heard he would be at Letterman and left my (at the time) office nice and early for what I described then as a “long lunch” and grabbed my spot on the barricade. Not only did Shia LaBeouf stop for fans at Letterman, but he fought a ton of autograph sellers off for being too aggressive and practically trampling his fans, and he was taking peoples cameras to take the pictures himself. Not for nothing, but he takes a pretty decent selfer!

Stay tuned for #2 tomorrow!

2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #4 – Justin Bieber!

29 Dec

On Tuesday I posted my #5 Celebrity Encounter this year – Jake Gyllenhaal!

My Bieber fever kicked in to high gear at the end of Summer 2010. My friends and I got to see him in concert in New Jersey and had sick floor seats so we got to see him in action, which only brought the fever to a fatal level. Just when I thought the fever was going to take me as a casualty my friends and I heard that Justin Bieber would be in the city to not only promote but also premiere his 3D film “Never Say Never” – do I even need to tell you the rest?

It was February, and we had known that the Biebs was in town and that his premiere was that night, but we had also gotten a tip that he would be making a “surprise” appearance during the MTV Upfronts at Hammerstein Ballroom. Our tip was not wrong, because shortly after my friends and I got to the Hammerstein’s back door a big black SUV rolled up, and out popped Kenny, followed by Bieber, and Scooter, and everyone else that was a major part of Bieber’s entourage at the time. He didn’t stop on the way in and we got nervous, especially when the crowd was no longer just my friends and I but my friends and a handful of two of randoms who had also heard about Bieber being in the building, but our prayers were answered when he left. Scooter and Co. brought the Bieber, all decked out in his premiere outfit including purple bow tie, directly to our little group of friends. Not only did he sign autographs but he took individual pictures with every single one of us before leaving. It. Was. Amazing. I think we all cried, honestly. NO SHAME!

The second time I met Biebs was not without copious amounts of effort. In June one of my friends who would prefer to remain nameless and I camped out outside of Macy’s in Herald Square for a chance to grab one of the 300 passes for a meet & greet with Bieber. We were somewhere around #35 in line and we left the next morning with passes to meet Bieber the following day and a huge Someday gift set. The following we day we showed up about an hour before the meet and greet was supposed to start, and as most Bieber fans and New Yorkers know – chaos erupted. I still don’t think anyone knows what happened but the story is that Bieber was somehow “jumped” outside of Macy’s when he came out to greet the waiting (and also meet and greet-less) fans. The meet and greet ended up losing about an hour and a half before it started, and way back in line where we were we heard he was only doing group pictures because the NYPD had demanded he be out of the building in an hour or him and everyone in his entourage was being arrested. INSANE. Lucky enough for us, once we got close enough, we could see that he was in fact taking solo pictures with his fans and we wiped the sweat off of our foreheads and prepared to meet him – again.

It’s all very much a blur, but I will never forget how it went down. Girls were running up to take a picture with him and instead of saying anything to him they would just throw themselves around him and hug him and then run off screaming. It was cute, but you could see that he looked tired (he had been doing non-stop press the past couple of days) and I felt pretty bad for him. When it was my turn I walked up to him and made sure to say hello before posing for pictures, and he seemed very excited that I could actually speak to him. “Hi!” We posed for a picture and before I left I turned to ask him if he was okay (we had all heard about the drama) and he said, “I am okay, thank you so much for asking, and thank you for coming.” Then I think I blacked out because the next thing I remember is picking up our pictures and screaming like 12 year old girls. Totally normal.

#3 is up next (it’s coming right after this post since I had technical difficulties last night and couldn’t get this one up in time!) – any guesses?
