2012 Met Gala: Jessica Chastain & Judd Apatow!

9 May

Jessica Chastain & I outside of the Sinclair Mansion where the official Met Gala after party was held.

The official Met Gala after party was on and popping at the Sinclair Mansion until well into the early Tuesday morning hours, and some of it’s latest guests were some of the best. Even though the crowd on 79th Street was a little intense what with groups of fans running back and forth across the two way four lanes trying to meet people, it was still fun to see who was showing up and leaving.

Among some of the stars I saw outside the Sinclair Mansion were Rihanna, Kristen Stewart, Gerard Butler, Elizabeth Banks (who fell coming down the steps – scary!), Lily Collins, Carey Mulligan, Dianna Agron, Gary Oldman, Adrien Brody, and Florence Welch. That is just naming a few, by the way.

Since the crowd outside of the Sinclair Mansion was so out of control very few people actually stopped for pictures. To no one’s surprise because she is quite possibly the kindest person in the world, Jessica Chastain was one of those few. Not only did Jessica come over to the fans but she took individual time with so many, giving out hugs and listening to their adoration confessions for her. Brian told her about how he and I had started a ‘Jessica Chastain Movie Club’ and recently watched “Take Shelter” to which she literally squealed with excitement over. I have to say that of all the celebrities I have ever met, Jessica Chastain has not changed one single bit since I first met her in August 2011 when she told me I was a fellow ginger. I will never not love her!

Judd Apatow & I outside of the official Met Gala after party at the Sinclair Mansion.

As the party inside the Sinclair Mansion seemed to come to a close, or at the very least die down substantially, comedic power couple Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann were some of the last few guests to leave. In my excitement I totally missed out on an opportunity to gush over everything Judd Apatow has ever helped create like ‘Bridesmaids‘, ‘Knocked Up‘, and most recently ‘Girls‘, but was thrilled when he agreed to pose for a quick picture. After the picture was taken he told me, “I lost my wife..”, but I had seen her get escorted to their waiting car by security and helped point him the right direction. I think it was a fair trade off!

2012 Met Gala: ‘Once Upon A Time’ at the After Parties!

9 May

Josh Dallas and I outside Crown at the unofficial 2012 Met Gala after party.

After meeting Karolina Kurkova outside of the unofficial Met Gala after party at Crown we decided to hang around for a little while and see who else might be inside. Since the party at Crown was unofficial there was less of a crowd outside which meant no matter who was inside we had a better chance of meeting them once they came out. Having seen the crowd outside of the official after party at the Sinclair Mansion, I was totally fine with not being anywhere near it.

As usual we made some fellow star-gazing friends outside of the party who let us know who they had seen go in and who hadn’t left yet. Among the celebrities inside according to our new pals were “Once Upon A Time” stars and real-life lovebirds Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin. Since June and I are such huge fans of the show we were instantly excited about the possibility of meeting them and waited patiently for any sign of them at the door. Before we knew it there they were at the top of the steps getting ready to leave Crown, and they were two of the only people who actually came over to the fans instead of going straight to their car.

I got to take a picture with Josh, Prince Charming himself, who was very kind and also psyched to hear that we were fans of “Once Upon A Time“. Shortly after we took a picture the crowd got a little anxious thanks to a group of grown men who couldn’t seem to contain themselves, and Josh Dallas took hold of Ginnifer Goodwin to sweep her off to safety inside their car. It was like watching them film a scene! Thankfully I caught up with Ginnifer at their next stop, the official Met Gala after party at the Sinclair Mansion. We lucked out by catching them across the street from the party so there was no crowd, and I told Ginnifer how I had tried to meet her over at Crown before she got accosted by that crazy crowd. We had a laugh over it!

I am also happy to report that Ginnifer Goodwin  made my FAVES list from the Met Gala!

2012 Met Gala: Coco Rocha, Isabel Lucas, and Karolina Kurkova!

9 May

Coco Rocha & I outside The Met after the 2012 Met Gala.

If you thought that I would just watch the Met Gala arrivals in person and then bounce without taking pictures with anyone, you were sorely mistaken.

This was my third year star gazing at the Met Gala and every year I feel like I learn something new about it. Of course there are some things that never change, too. Like how you can watch arrivals from across the street but it is pretty much 100% guaranteed no one will be crossing 5th Avenue to meet fans before walking up the red carpet of The Met steps. And no, you cannot even so much as walk on the sidewalk in front of The Met let alone linger casually until someone you’re interested in taking a picture with rolls up. Seriously. Trust me. Although I am not entirely ready to share all of my deep, dark lingering fangirl secrets to success on Met Gala night I will tell you this: the real fun begins when the Met Gala itself is over.

Isabel Lucas & I on 5th Avenue following the 2012 Met Gala.

My first post-Met Gala encounter was with Coco Rocha who unfortunately made my NOT-SO-MUCH list in her Givenchy outfit. Even though she wasn’t my favorite look of the night she was super sweet! While we were taking our picture the graphers (the people who collect autographs to sell) came running up and she said, “Oh no, here they come…” and I quickly apologized for stopping her to which she quickly dismissed by telling me, “No, it’s not your fault!” You know what? She’s right. But I still felt bad as she made her quick exit. Next up was Isabel Lucas who looked super cute in her Proenza Schouler peacock colored dress. Even though she was happy to stop for a picture she was with a group of friends so we didn’t chat much, but she was still nice!

Karolina Kurkova and I outside of the unofficial 2012 Met Gala after party at Crown.

Once it seemed like departures had come to a slow, if not a complete and total stop, my friends and I made our way to a couple of different after parties. When we got to the unofficial after party at Crown we stumbled upon Karolina Kurkova who was just about to get into her car, but I was so in love with her Rachel Zoe gown and headband that I stopped her to ask for a picture. Just when I thought she wasn’t going to do it my friend Brian – my savior! – told Karolina how much I loved her look and how she was one of my top picks of the night. Before I knew it she turned to me and gave me a big hug for our picture! Even the paparazzi were snapping away which is why the picture came out so bright. Hopefully those shots show up online soon! The only downfall to this was that all of the sequins on Karolina’s gown got stuck in my hair, but we worked it out so that I didn’t have a bald spot and she didn’t lose any threads.

2012 Met Gala: NOT-SO-MUCH!

8 May

Alright, you knew it was coming. I can’t point out my FAVES from last nights Met Gala without pointing out the ones that were, well, NOT-SO-MUCH my faves.

Now, before you go critiquing my critiques know this: I am not a fashion expert. I am merely just an opinionated pop culture fanatic with a blog. I like to think I know a red carpet train wreck when I see one, but it is still just my opinion. If you don’t agree then that is fine, because we are all entitled to our own!

However, I do not hate all of these looks. They are not all train wrecks, but some of them are on my NOT-SO-MUCH list because I don’t think they really fit in with what I think (note: think) should be walking the Met Gala carpet. Some of these looks are meant for other things like movie premieres, fashion shows, after parties, etc. For instance: Coco Rocha’s yellow and pink vintage Givenchy outfit was cute, but would have been better suited front row at a Givenchy runway show. Kristen Stewart’s Balenciaga dress would have been better untouched and at the MTV Movie Awards. Kristen Wiig’s Stella McCartney dress would have felt more at home at a movie premiere. Do you catch my drift here?

Unfortunately, others are just atrocious in the sense that they shouldn’t exist on any carpet ever. I think Marc Jacobs was hands down the most offensive outfit of the evening. Not only does he look ridiculous, especially with his bright white boxers and his Leprechaun shoes, but he is Marc Jacobs. How can one of fashion’s finest go so wrong on such an important night? Also, if Alexa Chung’s outfit from last night doesn’t finally rescind all of her invitations to future fashion A-list events, there is just no hope left in the world.

Enjoy the slideshow below featuring the ones who put NOT-SO-MUCH work into their Met Gala attire. Maybe next year?

2012 Met Gala: The Couples!

8 May

The Met Gala is not just about fashion any more. No, in fact stepping out with your A-list date on the red carpet covered Met steps is a trend that seems to catch on more and more every year and I have to say that I am really enjoying it!

Picking a favorite couple is pretty difficult, especially since they all looked fantastic last night, but if I absolutely had no choice but to do so I would pick Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. For some reason I feel like this might be a really cliché but can you really blame any of us? Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brady are so beautiful it almost hurts to look at them. When I saw them arrive last night I literally squealed. Like, out loud.

Here’s a slideshow of the fashionable, adorable, romantical couples of the evening. Who do YOU think looks best together?

2012 Met Gala: FAVES!

8 May

Last night was the 2012 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala – better known to the masses as the Met Gala - and if you didn’t already know this, it is considered the “East Coast Oscars”. Every year the Met Gala is the mecca of fashion on the red carpet. If you pay any attention at all to Fashion Week then you can pretty much predict who will be wearing who, but watching the red carpet will still take your breathe away no matter how much you think you’ve prepared yourself for it.

While I watched the red carpet happening live in person by standing across 5th Avenue with a clear view of the red carpet drop-off depot, there were a number of gowns that literally had me gasping with my jaw on the floor.

Who was my favorite, you ask? Emma Stone. Emma Stone shut it down in her gown which was a multitude of things such as adorable, fun, and sexy! Coming in a very, very close second (Seriously. I debated this internally for far too long.) is Carey Mulligan in a sequined Prada gown that matched the debut of her wedding bling perfectly.

Honorable mentions: Beyonce, Amber Heard, Chanel Iman, Christina Ricci, Jessica Stam, Nina Dobrev, and – GASP – Rooney Mara. Flawless choices, ladies!

Below is a slideshow of my FAVES from last night’s Met Gala - aka the “Best Dressed” in my opinion! Who was YOUR top pick of the night?

NYFW: Gabe Saporta at Tommy Hilfiger!

13 Feb

While Fashion Week went full steam ahead last week I have been taking the time to pick and choose carefully which shows I hit up for sightings. If I’ve learned anything from the past couple of Fashion Week’s I’ve been around, it’s that every day is a hit or a miss. It’s a rare occasion you can actually predict who will be at what show, and even if you can it’s usually only one person you can peg. Not to mention the weather here in New York has been pretty brutal, so I would rather be selective enough that I don’t come out of NYFW with pneumonia or the flu.

One of the shows that is usually pretty good for a celebrity guest or two is Tommy Hilfiger. In September I got to meet Kellan Lutz and Ed Westwick, as well as see James Marsden on his way out. When I heard the Tommy Hilfiger show was Friday evening up at the Lexington Armory I took the ride up there with fingers crossed and my camera ready to go. There were quite a few people waiting at the front entrance so I joined them, but it turned out all the  VIP’s were arriving at the back entrance none of us knew existed. By the time we made our way back there everyone was inside and the show had started, so all we could do was wait.

When the show was over Bradley Cooper was the first to leave, though he only took one picture with a fan before getting in his car to leave. In his defense there were quite a few people waiting at the back entrance by this point and zero security or barricades which makes for an unsafe and usually not-so-fun situation. Next up was Kellan Lutz who, as always, took a few pictures before leaving, followed by Cobra Starship‘s Gabe Saporta. Since I hadn’t gotten to meet Bradley and didn’t even attempt Kellan since I had already met him last week, I jumped at the chance to meet Gabe. Thankfully we have a mutual friend and if it hadn’t been for Brian being there I may not have gotten this picture. Praise Brian’s light!

Victor Cruz had also been in attendance but didn’t bother stopping for anyone on his way out. I do have to say, he’s very handsome in person!

Things I Want: The Fall Scarves Edition!

7 Oct

While my site is focused all of my “celebrity encounters” and the like, it is still my own personal blog and I have to remember to use it as such! While looking over B& Lu’s latest Fall fashions on their Facebook page I was inspired to share some of my favorites with you. While I may not be the most fashionable person in the world, if there is one thing I love about cold weather it’s the accessories – boots, scarves, hats, etc!

I promised myself I would start to steer clear of wearing too much black this season but so far no dice. It’s thinning, and it matches almost everything, and this black & white cat scarf from B&Lu is only $12 and adorable.

And yet another cute black and white scarf, this one with horses! I also love the length and the fringes on the end. I like my scarves like I like my necklaces – long! This B&Lu scarf is only $16.

Last but certainly not least, this is the scarf that inspired this post. It’s a little pricier at $28 (2 for $50!) but I am diehard in LOVE. This B&Lu leaf scarf is handmade and has all the perfect fall colors in it. Obsessed. (And plan on ordering next week!)

There is also these cell phone scarves – here, here, & here- they have a hidden pocket for your cell phone. Seriously!

B&Lu is a super cute store with plus-size fashions as well as some gorgeous one-of-a-kind accessories and as they continue to update their Facebook (you can also order things from their Facebook if you don’t see them on the site! BONUS POINTS!) with new items I am sitting here drooling. You should definitely check them out!

NYFW: Jessica Szohr @ Marchesa party!

14 Sep

As Fashion Week slowly draws to a close it seems like the party scene is picking up more and more every day. Last night the Marchesa party was held at the Dream Downtown’s rooftop bar/lounge “PH-D” next to Maritime. While there were some super cool people in attendance like Rachel Zoe, Emma Roberts, Chord Overstreet, Jared Eng, Camilla Belle, Nicky Hilton and Eve, the only one I met properly was ‘Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr. I have to say that for my least favorite character on the show she happened to be the nicest actress I’ve met in a long time. Also, I’ve always really loved her style, and she’s just as beautiful in person as I imagined.

After the event at PH-D ended everyone moved downstairs to the new Electric Room. I haven’t been there yet but it seems to be the new “hotspot” in the city. Hmm, maybe soon…
