George Clooney Getting Arrested is the Best Thing to Happen for Sudan

16 Mar

This morning George Clooney was arrested during a protest outside of the Sudan Embassy in Washington DC. It’s all over my Twitter feed, as well as the Trending Topics, and it is bound to be all over every gossip/celebrity site on the internet before I even finish writing this post.

Though it sucks for George, I imagine he knows how much attention and light will be brought to Sudan’s situation thanks to it.

They are going to post candids of him being handcuffed and arrested with his father Nick Clooney, and they are also going to show you footage, but I included the video of why George Clooney was arrested outside of the Sudan Embassy for you to watch instead. Most people will see that he was arrested and want to find out why and then turn to the internet to see what could possibly be going on in Sudan that would cause George Clooney to risk breaking the law, so here I make it really easy for you. I debated posting this video the other day when it premiere on YouTube, and probably should have, but now I have all the more reason to.

In a nutshell: Omar al-Bashir is trying to “wipe out” the ethnic blacks in Sudan so that the Arabs can come in and take over. They are doing this by bombing villages filled with people – including children.

You can learn more about the fight for Sudan’s freedom at EnoughProject.org – an organization affiliated with Invisible Children.

National Board of Review: Chock Full of Celebrities!

13 Jan

When you do what I do, hit up events and TV shows to meet celebrities, it’s a rare occasion you hit the same events every year. The are a few specific things like the Tribeca Film Festival, spring and fall Fashion Weeks, and even what we like to call “TV Week” in May that hosts all the network upfronts. However there is one event that my friend June and I have made our own tradition out of for three years now, and that’s the National Board of Review Awards which are held every January at Cipriani on 42nd Street. I consider the National Board of Review like our own little east coast Golden Globes/Oscar hybrid, which, if you take a look at some of the winners for this year, you’ll see why:

George Clooney, The Descendants

Best Actress
Tilda Swinton, We Need to Talk About Kevin

Martin Scorsese, Hugo

Best Ensemble
The Help

Best Film
Hugo

Best Original Screenplay
Will Reiser, 50/50

Best Supporting Actor
Christopher Plummer, Beginners

Best Supporting Actress

Top 10 Independent Films
50/50, Another Earth, Beginners, A Better Life, Cedar Rapids, Margin Call, Shame, Take Shelter, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Win Win

Top Films
The Artist, The Descendants, Drive, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Ides of March, J. Edgar, The Tree of Life, War Horse

There are always big names at the NBR Awards and even if you don’t get the chance to meet any of them during the event, it’s still pretty cool to be able to watch all of these big names and talent arrive and mingle outside on smoke breaks, and see all the gorgeous dresses, etc. In the slideshow are some pictures of Alec Baldwin, Carey Mulligan, Emma Stone, George Clooney, Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, Jessica Chastain, Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, Rooney Mara, Seth Rogen, Shailene Woodley, Stacy Keibler, Tilda Swinton, and Viola Davis. Enjoy!

VIDEO: “The Ides of March” After Party!

6 Oct

Yesterday was a pretty uneventful day at the office and I was glad that June & I made plans to hit up some events last night so that my day wasn’t a total bore. While I have no pictures to show for my evening it was still pretty star-studded! We started out at the Alice Tully Hall for the “A Dangerous Method” NY Film Festival gala screening. Michael Fassbender was present and accounted for which made June very happy because she finally got her picture with him! I honestly don’t know much about “A Dangerous Method” but I am really excited to see his other upcoming film “Shame” with one of my faves Carey Mulligan.

Once June met Michael we headed over to”The Ides of March” after party at the Metropolitan Club which was jam-packed with celebrities, although sadly Ryan Gosling was not there. We saw Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, Kelly Rutherford, Michael Angarano, Juno Temple, Michael Mosley, Matthew Settle, Jennifer Esposito, Zoe Kazan, Paul Giamatti, Jeremy Renner, Sigourney Weaver, Amanda Setton, Christie Brinkley,  and the one and only George Clooney. I took a short video of George and Jeremy leaving which you can see above.

I really want to see “The Ides of March” which comes out this weekend because, aside from my everlasting love for Ryan Gosling, it looks really dramatic and who doesn’t love a little political suspense?
