Chris Hemsworth Visits David Letterman!

30 Apr

Earlier this week I heard about a few different “The Avengers” promo appearances coming up – one of which was Chris Hemsworth on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Friday. If you didn’t already know this, Letterman usually tapes their Friday episodes on Thursday which meant getting to the Ed Sullivan theater nice and early to ensure a spot on the barricade.

Unfortunately the street that Letterman’s side entrance that all guests use was undergoing some major, major road work and the street was shut down. This meant there weren’t any barricades when I got there, and cars were being allowed onto the street by a construction worker stationed to open and close the street when necessary. For the couple of hours I was there waiting for Chris Hemsworth’s arrival the construction workers and Letterman security must have convened no less than three or four times to re-organize the street which meant moving the trucks, cars, barricades, cones, and anything else that was mobile. Finally, once all the construction vehicles had been moved, Letterman security set up barricades and some how, some way, Brian managed to grab a spot on the barricade. I was right behind him so that when the time came we could easily swap out to ensure that we both got a chance to meet Chris if and when he came over, so we were all set.

When Chris Hemsworth and his wife and entourage finally arrived around 5pm there was no time for him to stop as he needed to head inside and prepare for his interview. While we were exactly thrilled about this considering we had already been waiting quite a few hours and it was raining on and off, Letterman security assured us that Chris would stop for fans on the way out. So we continued to wait it out. A little over an hour later, Chris reappeared. As promised, Letterman security ushered him over to us patiently waiting fans.

I think I asked Chris for a picture five times. I know for a fact he heard me the first two or three, after that I was just grasping at straws and living in denial. As you can see I got a couple shots of him signing autographs, but unfortunately there is no signature shot of us together. I will say that he is unbelievably hot in person. The fact I was able to speak to him at all let alone semi-badger him for a picture I didn’t get is pretty freaking surprising – even to me!

Josh Hutcherson @ David Letterman!

22 Mar

As if the day wasn’t busy enough for we “The Hunger Games” fans following Liam Hemsworth’s appearance on GMA that morning and Jennifer Lawrence at David Letterman that afternoon, we found out while we were waiting for Jennifer that Josh Hutcherson would be taping his episode of The Late Show with David Letterman (it aired last night!) Tuesday evening.

Josh, who I met back in November for the first time, arrived early enough to come across the street and sign autographs for fans. Unfortunately, like Jennifer before him, he wasn’t allowed to take pictures either though I know a few lucky fans who managed to snag some right before he headed inside.

Is it me or has my site turned into a “The Hunger Games” fan site? No complaints!

Jennifer Lawrence @ David Letterman!

22 Mar

Tuesday afternoon Jennifer Lawrence paid a visit to The Late Show with David Letterman for an interview promoting “The Hunger Games” and after her taping she came across the street to sign a ton of autographs for everyone waiting.

Jennifer looked stunning, even more beautiful in person than I imagined she could be, and she was exceptionally polite as she made her way down the barricade.

Unfortunately her publicist wouldn’t allow her to take pictures with anyone – and this is the beginning of what I like to call “The Shunnifer Files“.

Elizabeth Banks Stops for Fans in the Brutal Cold!

26 Jan

When Elizabeth Banks made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman she sure picked a cold night to be there. It was maybe around 30 degrees out that night but it felt like -17, and after Elizabeth arrived and promised to come over to the fans waiting for her when she was leaving I even took a walk to the nearest Duane Reade to buy extra socks and hand warmers.

Waiting for Elizabeth to finish taping her interview in the harsh cold was worth it though because, as you can see, she not only kept her promise but made sure she stayed out there for quite some time making her way down the barricade signing autographs and taking pictures. This was my first experience meeting Elizabeth and it was AWESOME. Even if I lost some toes in the process.

I just bought tickets to see ‘Man On A Ledge‘ through Living Social today too and I can’t wait to see the flick!

‘The Mentalist’s Simon Baker signs autographs at David Letterman!

26 Jan

Simon Baker from ‘The Mentalist‘ made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman last week. On his way inside he didn’t stop for fans and this led everyone into a discussion about how he’s not usually very nice, how he never stops for fans, and how we had a better chance of flying pigs making their way down 53rd Street that night than getting to meet him. Well, as my video proves, they were wrong.

Not only did Simon come over to sign some autographs but he was looking for one specific fan: a woman who had shown up at 11am that morning to meet him but left after being discouraged by the people around us who said he wouldn’t do it, especially after he skipped us on the way in. You can even hear him in my video asking, “Where is she? Did she leave?” If I were that woman I would be so upset with myself! Then again that’s probably why I am always waiting out in the cold for entirely too long.. because I never allow myself to be discouraged.

I also want to give props to Simon Baker‘s publicist/assistant/the lady that was with him that night. She made sure all the fans got pictures and even though he had skipped me due to the chaos around me, she took my camera from me and told him to take a picture with me before leaving, which he did! Unfortunately at the same time she was trying to take our picture a bunch of photographers were leaning over her shoulder snapping pictures and their flashes screwed up my picture, but still. The effort was there and I will appreciate that lady forever!

2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #2 – Taylor Lautner!

30 Dec

To see #5 – #3 (Jake Gyllenhaal, Justin Bieber, & Shia LaBeouf!) – click HERE!

I am sure you are all BAFFLED as to how I could possibly include someone like Taylor Lautner in my Top 5 – and by baffled I mean you are all in shock that he wasn’t #1. I have to tell you, I struggled over this for a while. I mean, you guys know me, you know that Taylor is like my favorite favorite favorite favorite human being on the face of this planet. However when you see #1 tomorrow I think you will understand why.

Since my web-site has started my love affair (see what I did there?) with Taylor has been chronicled pretty efficiently, I think. I shared with you when I first met Taylor, back in 2009, back in September. And, shortly afterward, I shared with you my experience with Taylor while he was promoting Abduction (which three out of four of the pictures you see came from… totally normal). Then I got to share with you my encounter with Taylor – which is probably the greatest thing that has ever happened to me EVER – again in November when he came back to promote Breaking Dawn.

After looking at those three posts, I don’t think I need to really explain why Taylor is on my list.

Dear Taylor: If you ever see this, I’m just saying that… dinner couldn’t hurt. Right? I’ll even pay. When’s the last time a girl took YOU to dinner? Boom.

#1 is tomorrow! I promise to get it up before I go out for an evening of year ending debauchery!

2011′s Top Celebrity Encounters: #3 – Shia LaBeouf!

29 Dec

Check out my #5 & #4 Top Celebrity Encounters – Jake Gyllenhaal & Justin BieberHERE!

Shia LaBeouf and I have a rocky relationship. That’s right, I said relationship, and that’s because we’ve had some issues over the past couple of years.

When Shia was filming “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” here in New York back in 2009, I made more than one effort to meet him on set. I had heard that he wasn’t exactly the easiest person to try and meet on set, but he has been one of my favorite actors since I can remember, so I figured why not? Trying never hurt anyone. Plus, 9 times out of 10, as long as you don’t completely interrupt a scene, actors are usually more than happy to stop on their way to and from lunch, or when they are done for the day. Well, not Shia LaBeouf. The first time I saw him on set I froze up. I had been meeting a friend for lunch in Chelsea and as we stood on a corner figuring out which direction we should go, there was Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan walking across the street towards us. It was one of those surreal moments that I remember only in slow motion. Once they hit our corner Carey went her own way to her trailer, and Shia crossed the street in the direction we were headed – so duh, we followed him. We thought that if we caught him at his trailer he would be nice enough to do it. He was, after all, alone. No security, no PA, no nothing. Just Shia. He practically jogged to his trailer though, and when he got there he realized it was locked, and when he turned to see if anyone was coming he more or less gave us a look that, if looks could kill, would have shot us dead on site. I can take a hint, so we left.

The next time I tried him on set was when he was filming in the Central Park zoo with Michael Douglas. We got to watch them film that scene where they are walking passed the seals eating hot dogs about 45 times before they wrapped for lunch, and we waited on a bench at the entrance to the zoo for them to come back to set once lunch was over. We got to say hi to Oliver Stone, who was really nice, and Michael Douglas chatted with us a bit on his way back to set, too. Then Shia was on his way back and we thought – This is it! – because if Oliver and Michael were being so accommodating, why wouldn’t Shia? We said hi to him as he approached us with a big, scary looking PA, and he said hi back but wouldn’t even look at us. We pushed anyway – hey, maybe he was shy? – and asked for a picture and his exact response, word for word, again without looking at either of us, was the following: “No. I’m walking.” Oh. Okay. Um, I can take two hints – so I never went back to that set again!

When Wall Street 2 was finally released, June and I actually had tickets to the premiere and the after party. Shia showed up late to the premiere and never even came inside to the theater to watch the film, and he didn’t attend the after party.

This June when Shia and his Transformers co-stars were in the city to promote and premiere the film I figured I would give it one last go. I, like most Shia fans, had seen that he happens to be very friendly when he is filming Transformers so I decided that it’s got to be a Michael Bay thing. Maybe Michael Bay sits him down at the beginning and is like, “I don’t care if you don’t want to meet fans, you will do so on my set.” Imagine that in a really dramatic and stern Michael Bay voice, okay? I had heard he would be at Letterman and left my (at the time) office nice and early for what I described then as a “long lunch” and grabbed my spot on the barricade. Not only did Shia LaBeouf stop for fans at Letterman, but he fought a ton of autograph sellers off for being too aggressive and practically trampling his fans, and he was taking peoples cameras to take the pictures himself. Not for nothing, but he takes a pretty decent selfer!

Stay tuned for #2 tomorrow!

Taylor Lautner promoted Abduction in NYC and I claimed temporary insanity.

25 Sep

Running a fan-site for an upcoming movie means knowing about all the upcoming promotion – especially the things in your own city. I would be lying if I didn’t say that running Abduction News I was most looking forward to the end, the release, and the potential to get to see/meet Taylor Lautner and other cast members during some appearances here in NYC. Obviously, when I heard that Taylor would be hitting the town and appearing on the Today Show, Late Night with David Letterman, Regis and Kelly, Jimmy Fallon, etc… I warned all my friends in advance to clear the calendars because it was go time. Thankfully my friends like Taylor as much as I do (well, no, I don’t think ANYONE likes Taylor as much as I do… but you get the point!), and were what they like to call “Team Make It Happen.”

TMIH started early on Wednesday morning when we arrived at the Today Show courtyard in Rockefeller Center with fingers crossed for a chance encounter with Taylor during his interview. The Today Show is tricky in the sense where they only put certain celebrities in the courtyard, especially after Summer because they start doing most of their interviews back in the studio to avoid inclement weather. I figured we had a good chance they would bring Taylor out into the courtyard based on the caliber of his celebrity and fan base alone, but just in case we made sure the Today Show staff knew who we were there for. Just when I thought we had it in the bag security came over to tell us that due to the hikers in Iran being released, that Obama was going to be making a live broadcast about it and Taylor’s segment was likely to get cut from the show. We couldn’t really argue that due to it’s importance, but we were still bummed and wondering if they would at least send Taylor out to meet his fans since we had seen him gone in (and gotten a very exciting wave!). Eventually the audience coordinator came out to tell us that Taylor was going to start with me (THAT’S RIGHT: ME!!!) and they got us ready for him to come out. Hopefully you watched the video above and already saw the final product of our morning!

But now you’re looking at those pictures and you’re noticing that they are just that: pictures. Plural. There are three of them. Well, that’s where the temporary insanity comes into play… I met Taylor at the Today Show and was like, well, he’s doing Letterman later, right? Can’t hurt to go say hi… and it didn’t! And you want to know the BEST part about meeting Taylor at Letterman? The first thing he said to me was, “Good to see you again!” It was like he saw my big, red, crazy button and decided to push it for fun. I thought my friends (Brian, Carly, and Christina) with me were going to die and they thought the exact same thing about me. He was really sweet and he took pictures with Brian and I again and then Carly and Christina got pictures with him too (after an altercation with some autograph sellers that Taylor’s security got involved in… protecting my friends and I…), and that’s where the middle picture came from. The next morning my friend June wanted to go to Regis & Kelly to meet Taylor because she had missed him at the Today Show and wasn’t able to go to Letterman, so naturally… I joined her. Regis & Kelly was so unbelievably calm which was surprising because it’s usually a shit show – especially for someone like Taylor Lautner. There were maybe 10 or 15 people there including autograph sellers and paparazzi, and when Taylor came out there were no barricades or anything. He took a picture with my friend June and signed her Abduction t-shirt, and then he took pictures and signed autographs for everyone else, and I waited to be last to ask for another picture because I knew that I already had one and didn’t want to prevent anyone else from getting one if they had missed him the day before. Taylor remembered me again, and he was really nice as was his security. I have nicknames for them, by the way. The bald one is Daddy Warbucks. The first time I met Taylor (see: HERE) he was really, really scary. He was pretty cool this time around though, so I think I picked the right nickname for him after all. I don’t have a nickname for the other one, but I kept calling him the tall, dark, and handsome one. He actually looks like he could be related to Taylor…

Overall I had a fun couple of experiences with Taylor, and as one of his biggest fans I don’t think it could have gone any better than it did. I also had tickets to see him at 106th & Park which was fun, but I skipped Jimmy Fallon, his second appearance on the Today Show Friday morning, and his appearance on MTV’s 10 on Top. I really want to thank Taylor (as if he’ll EVER see this) and his security for being so awesome. I can promise you other fans this: you will never – and I do mean NEVER – meet another celebrity who is as grateful for, and appreciative of, and excited to meet his fans as Taylor Lautner. I thought that the first time I met him in 2010, and I think it’s actually inflated tenfold as opposed to dying down which speaks highly of Taylor’s character.
