Temporary Blog Hiatus!

13 Apr

Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding my family I have decided to take a temporary hiatus from the blogosphere. The past couple of days have been a bit surreal and overwhelming for me and my family, and it’s probably not going to end for another week or so. Blogging about Hollywood doesn’t seem right or feel right at the moment, nor will I have time to do so next week as it looks like I will need to travel out of state within the next couple of days. I put this post up so that you all don’t think I’ve given up or gone missing, and I also don’t want there to be a huge unexplained gap in my postings if anyone were to look back on my blog later on. Thank you to everyone who has been checking back frequently!

Why I skipped “The Hunger Games” at midnight…

24 Mar

Like many of you I have been waiting for “The Hunger Games” movie to be released for quite some time. Once tickets went on sale in February I practically stalked the group of friends I had been planning to go with until they decided which theater they wanted to go to, and a few weeks ago we finally purchased our tickets for the 12:07am showing on Thursday night at one of our favorite theaters in the city.

Then, last week while seeing “21 Jump Street“, we found out we could switch our tickets to be seen in a theater called ‘The Capitol‘ and so we did. Seeing the movie not only at midnight but also in ‘The Capitol‘ had us all walking on air with excitement. I mean, how could it get better than that?! Unless Josh Hutcherson was going to show up and escort me to my seat and share his snacks with me, I don’t think it possibly could.

Then I remembered: My brother’s concert! I promised my brother last year when I missed his high schools Battle of the Bands that I would be there this year. Not only because I had missed him and his band One Night Only winning last year, but also because it was his senior year and I knew how important it would be to him. Plus, I hadn’t seen him perform live yet so I felt I was missing out on a huge part of his adolescence.

It went without saying that my brother’s concert came first and foremost, especially over a movie no matter how much I was looking forward to it, and so I took an overnight trip to New Jersey to watch One Night Only rock out. They performed “Slither” by Velvet Revolver, “My Sacrifice” by Creed, “When I’m Gone” by 3 Doors Down, “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence, and they closed with “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. It. Was. Amazing.

Oh, and the best part? THEY WON!

So while you were all enjoying “The Hunger Games” during it’s midnight release I was spending some Q.T. with my not-so-little brother and his band while they kicked ass and took names at Battle of the Bands. Below is a video I took of their closing performance “Born to Run” for you to check out!

P.S.: For those of you wondering…. I’ve already seen “The Hunger Games” twice.

It Appears Some Clarification Is Needed…

26 Jan

Alright, I’d like to take a moment to write up a quick personal blog in regards to some comments I’ve seen on other web-sites in regard to me and my web-site. Usually I don’t mind when other fans take my blogs, pics, and videos and share them amongst their own fan communities but what you might not know is that WordPress allows me access to see where my things are being posted and cross-referenced. I like to see where my blogs, pictures, and videos are posted because it gives me an opportunity to see what you fans like to see. Do you prefer videos to pictures? Do you want to know every single detail I can remember or do you not care so much for the text? Etc, etc. It’s interesting for me to see where the information I am able to provide gets taken and how it gets discussed among you, my fellow fans. But I think some of you might be missing the point that I am, in fact, simply just a fan like you.

First and foremost, I am not nor will I ever be an autograph collector or seller. I do not get things signed to sell on eBay or any other web-site, and aside from things I’ve gotten signed for my self and my self only, I rarely ever even get autographs while I am out. Once I tried to get Taylor Lautner to sign some Abduction posters while he was here promoting the film so that I could give them away here on this web-site, but I only got one signed and I decided to keep it for my self. That is the only time I ever tried to get something signed and it wasn’t even for my own benefit, it would have been for yours had it worked out.

Secondly, there are the occasional random celebrity encounters that I end up with video or pictures with simply because they were at the same place for someone I was actually waiting for. EXAMPLE: Simon Baker. I would never have gone out for Simon Baker on my own. I’ve never seen an episode of ‘The Mentalist’ in my life, and the only thing I know him from is ‘Devil Wears Prada’ and that is only because my friend Brian mentioned it while I was talking about having met him at Letterman. If I am somewhere waiting for someone specific and another actor, actress, singer, reality TV star, etc. comes out and decides to take pictures, of course I am going to take a picture with them. Of course I am going to record harmless video of them signing autographs for others. Why? So that I can share the experience here on my blog with you readers. I don’t do it to make money (because if you haven’t noticed there are no advertisements on this web-site so I am not making any money off of your hits), and I don’t do it to sell out the celebrity themselves.

Moral of the story: I am just a big fangirl. I fangirl for everything and everyone because celebrities excite me, and I like being able to share all of those exciting moments with you.

Why Fans Should Care About SOPA/PIPA & Stopping It!

18 Jan

The internet has been buzzing with anti-SOPA movements for a while now, but none like today. Many blogs and official web-sites alike, such as WikiPedia, have gone off-line in honor of today’s Internet Black Out protest. WikiPedia reads: “Imagine a world without free knowledge.”

You may have noticed that many of your favorite fan sites have also blacked out for the day, if not longer, in support of the protest against SOPA. Why should this be important to you? Well, quite frankly, if SOPA is approved when the U.S. Senate starts voting on the 24th then every single fan site for any actor, actress, musician, band, movie, television show, etc. will be deemed illegal and blocked by the government. There will be no more photo galleries, live streams, live blogging/tweeting, or, most important to me personally, social networks. Twitter, Tumblr, MySpace, YouTube, and even Facebook will be removed and banned in the United States due to the use of 3rd Party Content which is considered piracy and copyright infringement and therefore illegal.

Our economy is already suffering, not just in America any more but all across the world, think about what will happen if web-sites like YouTubeFacebook and MySpace have to shut down and lay off their entire staff both domestically and internationally?

Mark Zuckerberg posted an awesome statement on Facebook just a few moments ago which reads:

The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can’t let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet’s development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.

The world today needs political leaders who are pro-internet. We have been working with many of these folks for months on better alternatives to these current proposals. I encourage you to learn more about these issues and tell your congressmen that you want them to be pro-internet.

You can read more about our views here: https://www.facebook.com/FacebookDC?sk=app_329139750453932.

My personal opinion on SOPA is this: It is a lazy way for the government to control piracy. It’s a cop out. Unfortunately it is also an infringement on our rights as American citizens. It will be taking away our right to freedom of speech, our right and freedom to creativity, and our right and freedom to connect with the rest of the world as well as our own peers. They might as well ban cable television and cell phone service next.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

First of all: Stop pirating! Pay for movies, pay for music, don’t steal copyrighted photos and videos to share on your own web-sites. Fans are as much a part of the problem as the common thief, and this has to stop.

Second of all: Sign the petition!

Lastly? Share the petition on all of your social networking accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, your blog, MySpace, etc.

It was my birthday this weekend!

22 Nov

So Sunday was my birthday but since everyone has work and not all of my friends live in and/or close to the city I had dinner and celebrations on Saturday evening! We had a super yummy dinner at Dos Caminos SoHo (best guacamole ever!) followed by drinks at some random sports bar across the street that served champagne as well as beer. This is a quick shot we took post-sports bar champagne and it’s missing 5 people from the evening. I had so much fun and wanted to thank all of my friends with this post! xoxo

P.S.: It’s my birthday and I’ll sparkle like Taylor Swift if I want to!

Halloween 2011!

4 Nov

(L-R: Brian, Kathleen, Me, & Ilana!)

Halloween was last weekend and unless you are really boring or live under a rock or in one of those countries that bans the holiday because they think it’s evil, you probably got dressed up & maybe even partied a little bit! Brian holds an annual Halloween costume party (this year was his 4th!) and it was my second year attending. This year Brian went as Justin Bieber (pre-haircut & Selena Gomez), Kathleen was a flapper, I was Bella from Breaking Dawn, Part 1 (courtesy of a satin decor pillow in my pants…), and I have no idea what Ilana was. Thankfully Brian throws the best house parties and we had so much fun! Some other costumes in the house were Blaine from Glee, Little Red Riding Hood, and a Taco!

Who did YOU dress up as for Halloween?

Did you know Brian’s patronus is Nicki Minaj?

9/11: Ten Years Later

11 Sep

The last few days I had been putting together a blog in honor of 9/11 in my head. Thinking of things I wanted to write about like where I was, how I found out, what happened after, and how it affected my family. This morning I woke up, turned on NBC, and completely lost everything I wanted to say. Though I have not forgotten what happened that day, nor will I ever, the way I am emotionally overwhelmed this morning is a bit of a surprise to me. I made a trip to the World Trade Center, home of the new 9/11 memorial that you are seeing on TV, and home to the Freedom Tower, on Friday night to pay my respects and take pictures of how far we’ve come. I gave myself those moments alone to grieve and marvel in how beautiful the Freedom Tower already is and how I found it inspiring. There is something about sitting here watching the memorial unfold, and the ache I feel every time we pause for a moment of silence and the bell as the planes hit the towers and the Pentagon. In a few minutes it will happen again for when the first Tower will collapse.

God bless all the lives that were lost on 9/11 not only here in New York but in Pennsylvania and Washington DC as well, especially the fallen heroes. If you asked me though, I think they are all heroes. Every life lost with the exception of the terrorists themselves was a life lost in honor of our country, and a life that is still being fought for to this day.
